Silom Road & Patpong Night Market

By day, Silom is Bangkok's Wall Street — sharp suits, street-side coffee carts, and office towers including the pixelated silhouette of King Power MahaNakhon, Thailand's most striking skyscraper (its 78th-floor glass-floored SkyWalk is a ten-minute walk from the hotel and the best sunset ticket in the neighbourhood).

Silom is also layered with older stories. Halfway down the road stands Sri Mariamman Temple (Wat Khaek), Bangkok's most important Hindu shrine — a riot of colour built by Tamil immigrants in the 1860s, its gopuram tower stacked with hundreds of carved deities. Step in respectfully any afternoon and you'll find garland-sellers, incense, and a very different Bangkok from the banking towers next door.

After sunset the neighbourhood changes register entirely. Food stalls take over the sois, office workers crowd around open-air grills, and the famous Patpong Night Market spreads across two lanes with souvenirs, watches, and t-shirts to haggle over. Rooftop bars from casual to glamorous open all along Silom and Sathorn — most within walking distance of your room.

Our tip: start with sunset at a rooftop, wander the market for an hour, then finish with a bowl of jok (rice porridge) or grilled skewers from a street stall. Everything above is 5–15 minutes on foot from SO Zen.
